How many of you out there get such a hurry to jam-pack your schedule? You might desire for free time, but that white space on your calendar can actually be full of anxiety.
Some people call this “busyness addiction.” It’s not an official diagnosis — and, frankly, the word “addiction” seems a little heavy to me. Busyness isn’t a attitude of doing things, nor is it even a specific action. My interpretation is that this “addiction” is more an expression of anxiety or compulsive behavior.
This feeling might seem familiar to you if …
- You feel “at your best” when you’re at your busiest.
- You have trouble distinguishing the importance of time spent with loved ones.
- You like when people point out how busy you are.
- When you do find yourself doing nothing, you feel guilty for not being productive.
I want to make a careful distinction here: This isn’t the same as being a “workaholic.” It’s not that we feel the urge to fill up our free time with work. Instead, we want to fill it with stuff .
Like when I read bible this morning about busyness. It is in Luke 10: 38~42
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[f] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
We are used to feel “at our best” when we are very busy serving our Load, doing our ministries, doing our business etc… Actually NOT!
In Bible, in the point of God’s view, “Best” means get the right priority which is put God in the first place and then your work second. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Just be relax, listen to the voice from God in the deep of your heart. He will make a way when there is no way, he will open a window when all the doors are closed. Your busiest is not your best, instead, none of all the things we are doing at the same time are on the right track. That is the reason why we have to be busy on fix them. One time, one thing, one focus. My dear friends.
“In the process, we have been sold a bill of goods: that success means being supermen and superwomen who can get it all done. Where does the “supermen and superwomen” imperative come from? In the business world, it often comes from the cultural expectations of high achievement, it also comes from the impression we get that everyone is doing tons of cool stuff all the time.
Just be what you are. Rely on God, take your time to on reading the bible or make some simply prayer. He will be your guider and make it happen for you. Get off from your own throne and put God there. You will be truly productive.
